Sing me spanish lullabies

These works of Eugenio Recuenco's are so very hauntingly lovely, exactly like so many fairy tales.

edit: I'm not sure why the top photo won't appear larger...I wish it would, since it's my favorite one of the bunch, but if you click on it you can see the larger view.

Hold my things please

all photos from style.com

Through my perusal of style.com's featured fall 2008 accessories I came across more than a bounteous amount of bags that I would really like to have hold my things. To see the bags in detail click on the picture...

I can just imagine wearing gorgeous vintage fur stoles, flowy floral dresses, and knitwear all thrown together in a slouchy, layery mess, topped off with one of the rich royal bags this fall.

As for the whimsys, I can see myself pairing them with neutrals or popping jewel tones, robin-hood boots, and silvers and golds, layered (of course) to perfection.

And the mods, the mods are the basic, to be paired with whatever I should feel like wearing, jeans and tees; little dresses, tights, and oversized knit sweaters; 0r monochrome outfits.

Fashionably late

There are two things that I am consistently passionate about in life: fashion, and saving the world. Call me an overachiever, but I want to save the world wearing amazing clothes, and preferably a pair of killer Balenciaga heels (a pair of these will do...).

I am terrified of the monotonous march humanity is making towards self destruction. I want to change things. I'm bound to try, for the rest of my life, seeing as I feel such an urgent discomfort when I find myself sinking back into the sedative arms of apathy. And I will always be overcome with a lust for fashion, I have been for as long as I can remember, and I will continue to be, because my identity is inextricably involved in my wardrobe. But how does one combine the two?

For me, the answer (at least for the time being) is this: My good friend Kelsey and I are putting on a fashion show. A fashion show that's going to help save the world. I am so, so thrilled that this is happening. It's going to be a lot of work (we are making all of the looks out of recyclables, used material, and used clothes), a lot of fun (see previous little interjection) and I hope it'll wake people up a little. Or at least jolt them
enough to get their brains to thinking about how each and every one of us can do a little something to make our world a little better, a little cleaner, and a little more harmonious. I'm bursting with ideas and design plans, and I'll keep you all updated on the goings on of this project.

That being said, if you live in or around NYC and want to be involved (as a designer, stylist, model, sound-person, runway choreographer, seamstress/tailor, or anything else) please please get in touch with me! Kelsey and I are trying to build our team and we would LOVE to have all the contributers we can. This event is not only going to be for a good cause, but it's going to be incredibly....fashion-y. I'm excited!

And on that note:

Everything's coming up roses

I know I said I'd do a post on my mom, but I'm tired and have to get up early to go to my internship, so I'm gonna put that one off. I am also in the middle of an impulse DIY project that is involving a lot of hand sewing, funny netting, and awkward draping...I'll get back to you about how that all works out. So because of my fatigue and distraction I'll leave you with what I'm inspired with today: Queen Michelle and Queen Marie of Kingdom of Style. I seriously have scoured every single post they have ever posted within the past two days, and lemme tell you, these girls are some kind of royalty. I love em.

Queen Michelle really makes me wish my figure was more androgynous...and that I could find harem pants somewhere (for really cheap...if any of you have ideas, please do tell!):

It's been a while...

Actually it's been a hell of a long time. Since I've posted that is. I think my .o4 readers are quite disappointed with me. Anyway school's out and I have a tad more time so I'll be consistently updating now.

So I moved to New York City. That's really the foundation of all that's been on my mind and proverbial plate recently. Being here is a far cry from little po-dunk Gresham, and I've really been dealing with some personal shit because of it. Personal shit that just so happens to be mostly manifesting itself in my wardrobe. I am, I have discovered, not an individual here (in both fashion and personal aspects). In Gresham, OR, yes, I am a crazy, unique individual- there is rarely a time I'll go out of my house without garnering at least a couple incredulous looks- but now that I'm in this crazy ass place surrounded by ten zillion other individual, unique crazies, I'm feeling rather less than mediocre. I feel boring! I feel like I can never have an individual, creative, entirely unique and new idea, style, or thought, and it's driving me batty. I mean, I have my inspirations, but I feel like I am just being a big fat copy-cat, and not really being unique. It's really driving me crazy, but until I have an epiphany or breakthrough of some sort I suppose I'll leave you with some of my recent inspirations.

clocks and keys:
bird and clock headband, clock necklace, key necklace, and clock ring- all made by yours truly

the second inspiration of late is my mother, a woman who I respect and love more than life, and who's life I only hope mine will compare to. I put together a little photoshopped confection of pictures of her only to have photoshop quit unexpectedly on me, and delete all the work I'd done...so my next post will be on her.

springtime

the edges of springtime are starting to show around the gardens, even though everything is still grey and brown; ripples of light are starting to show, and i want to dress like the girls below.

'"it was a group of girls you'd see on the street in the early morning coming home from a ball", explained Olivier Theyskens. His wispy raggle-taggle troupe was wending its way home in a particularly poetic state of dishevelment, of course. Their clothes were ombre-tinted in subtle grays and browns, as if smudged by the murky first light of a city day. The opening girl had pulled on her boyfriend's dusty tux, which had come apart at the back, over an artfully wilted twisted satin tunic. Others had draped sloppy, holey cardigans over the shredded remains of charmeuse and chiffon, trailing stringy feather boas as the walked. Some, possibly, were even down to their shirts or slips (you know how you start losing things on a long night out?), and one had wrapped a blanket- or maybe the dance-hall curtain- over her chiffon gown.' -style.com
