Buttercream Babies

Considering that I joined this blogsphere with the aim to focus on fashion I've been reading a lot of posts about cupcakes, and looking at a lot of pictures of cupcakes. As a result I've also been making and eating a lot of cupcakes. Go figure.

I got up nice and early this morning and made these babies for breakfast, chocolate cupcakes with buttercream frosting. mmmmmm.

Thank you all for your wonderful sweet comments, getting them makes me smile-without fail. It still surprises me that I have people that check my blog on a regular basis! So I want to know what you all want. Suggestions, demands, questions, and complaints are all welcome!

I was going to wait til my 50th post to do this one, but I'm close enough, and curious to know what you all want to see here!

MANY loves, and smile at a grumpy looking stranger today, it'll make you giggle, and maybe make them giggle too.

Idol-itry

Lately I've been feeling like dressing all kick ass and rock star like, and as I was listening to my beloved 80's mix Billy Idol's White Wedding came on. I then had an epiphany. I want to dress like Billy Idol. He is badass sexiness.

oh autumn where art thou?

Sometimes I say really odd things. Just yesterday my boss was playing around with a lit candle and my favorite pen, and in response to his actions I blurted out "Don't desecrate my pen thus!"
In other news, I am driven to frustration and tears by this god awful trying to obtain a work visa for the UK business, and I have been working like mad. So this little place gets quite neglected seeing as my brain cells cannot work together to come up with anything exciting to wear or anything interesting to say (see above quote for an exception).

I do however still lust after things in my work and research harried brain.

For one, I want the Diana camera.
On my google image search for a Diana camera I came across these, which made me want it more.

And now I'm off to work again. Whhheee. I love you all m'dears.

A two post sort of day

I'm at work, and being a hostess of a restaurant does not usually entail me spending hours and hours online perusing blog after blog and fashion show after fashion show, but saturday brunch at this particular restaurant is rather...slow...so here are the results of my saturday brunch shift:

A love for Gareth Pugh that is comparable to my love of plaid.

Shoulders as wide across as I am tall? Please and thank you. Dresses made out of zippers and geometrical leather shapes? Check. Quilted leather outerwear and bodysuits, buckled shoes? Gimme gimme gimme.

Miniature Disasters

Hello my dears! I've just made a rather rash, and very very exciting decision. I am moving to Edinburgh Scotland in the spring!! My best friend N and I are moving together, and I am more than ecstatic about it, I am seriously incredibly happy.

On another note however, I don't have a job there, thus I am not sure if I will be granted a work visa. I know it's a long shot but if any of you lovelies live in the UK (preferably in the general area of Edinburgh) and have or know of anyone who would hire two wonderful American girls on break from university please tell me!

I am so immensely excited for this.

Poison or remedy

...of all the intersecting lines in the sand
I routed a labyrinth to your lap.
I never used a map sliding off the land
on an incidental tide,
and along the way you know, they try
they try...

the boys say we're not stopping

summertime.

It's not polite to stare

This is a mish-mash post. I'll start with this fun little list that I found over at Kelsey's blog (for some reason typing that just made me sing Jesse's Girl...whatever).

10 Fictional Characters in Fictional Books who remind me of me/who I'd like to be like:
1. Ginny from the Harry Potter books
2. Cecilia from Ian McEwan's Atonement
3. Meg from Madeline L'Engle's Time Quartet books
4. A tree-nymph from CS Lewis's Narnia
5. Mary from Frances Hogson Burnett's Secret Garden
6. Eilonwy from Lloyd Alexander's Pyrdain Chronicles
7. Lyra from Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials
I can only think of seven right now, I can't ever seem to remember the title or author of a book-much less the characters- but I do remember the feeling of the book, so I've got a million feelings from books, but if I tried to tell you what they were it would come out something like "that one book, by that one author...". Not so helpful.

Anyway on to more fashion related things.

I saw this girl yesterday. Is it not the perfect combination?
 Bike, shoes, dress, hair....sigh.

I wore this yesterday, I was channelling my inner flapper, too bad you can't really see the outfit details...the pictures were taken in the bathroom of my favorite little coffee shop, and yes, the wall behind me does say "fuck bush". I sort of love it a lot.

Girl if you're a seascape

I'm feeling excessively uninspired. I hate my body, I hate my clothes, I hate my shoes, and I hate that it's a billion degrees and sweaty outside.

But I do like art nouveau.
I've decided that I have an art nouveau girl body. Too bad I don't have swaths of gorgeous sheer fabric to wear...

I lied. I love art nouveau. And I love you all, even when I'm grumpy.

big eyes, little mouth

If today were to be a food it would be cotton candy, all sweet and fun and floaty and sticky. I went to Coney Island today for the first time ever, to partake in the sweaty, hipster-y mess that is the Siren Music Festival. It was phenomenal, the bands were awesome (I only payed attention to the Dodos, Beach House, Islands, and Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks to be honest, but still), the weather was HOT, and so were the people.

Other than seeing some FAB FAB bands I also had a few other fun
surprises. As I was just becoming rather infuriated with trying to find a couple friends (a situation that turned into a downright wild goose chase) a rather attractive guy asked to get my photo to use as part of a promotional something-or-another for the movie What We do is Secret, which was quite a pick-me-up. Then as I was walking on the boardwalk with my friends (I finally did find them), Eddie Newton of Stylesightings stopped my friend and I and asked to shoot both of us!

Plus it was just a good day. Here are some things to look at.

p.s. thanks to everyone who recommended solutions to my photo uploading problem, I am much too tired tonight to try the suggestions but they will come to good use shortly.

Many loves to you all!

I'm so plaid

I just realized how exceptionally out of the fashion show loop I have been of late. It used to be that I would spend hours perusing collection after collection- but recently I've been paying much more attention to "real people"-wear (you guys). So when I came to the conclusion just the other day that I absolutely stupendously love plaid I thought I was being all original- well a quick jaunt through a couple magazines, and style.com put me right on that matter. Apparently plaid is going to be big this fall, a trend I fully intend to endorse, though my pocketbook will unfortunately be ruling out buying these:

D&G
I'm not a big fan of D&G, and a lot of looks from this collection were, in my opinion, too overdone- to the point where the integrity and interest of each garment is lost to the larger clash of pattern, color, and shape. But I love these. The last one reminds me of Ukranian pysanky:

Preen
On first glance I didn't really think this collection was all that great (I promise I'm not usually this negative!), but when I looked closer I absolutely fell for it. The colors, textures, and shapes that are used are just bloody brilliant.

Peter Som
I completely adore the creativity of this collection. It's classic, but with a twist, and I would wear every single piece.

And I'll take these as my little black dresses, yes please!

Apologies for not posting yesterday, it was a tiring and hectic day. Much love to you all, thank you all for reading and commenting, this blog has rather become my baby.

edit: I HATE MY BLOGGER ACCOUNT!! Or something like that, every time I preview this post it is about a third of the way as long, because the pictures line up properly (3 in a row, 2 rows of 3 pics), but when I publish it it messes it all up! Also the pictures are un-clickable! Why? If anyone has any suggestions as to solving this problem please do tell!
